So, I have been super busy each day since you last read from me. In fact, I’m awake a little bit early in order to reach out and give you a brief update.
Over the past week I’ve been, along with other members of our team, transforming emotionally and spiritually. I went to church last Sunday and played my trombone during communion. To me it was prayer. I haven’t felt the connection to God, in that way, in quite some time.
I’ve also been driving on the left side of the road while I’m here. I often question how connected I feel to this place. It feels like home. I don’t know if it’s the water, or the continent, or the people, but I feel like I’m at home whenever I’m here.
The learners/students have been growing. They are also transforming into greater versions of themselves. In the music institute we’ve been recording and manipulating environmental sounds and personal introductions into an improvised electronic piece. Yesterday the poetry and music groups combined and created pieces of aural art to perform at our culminating graduation celebration this Friday.
Our primary objective in the music institute is to hear sound differently, to hear music in all sounds, and to manipulate those sounds using software. I’ve been trying to share some pictures of our progress, but I’ll have to wait for a stronger internet connection. I’ll also share some of our music with you online.
Well, bye bye for now.
